Accolades for Hampton Bays High School winter athletic teams

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association has recognized four Hampton Bays High School winter athletic teams as Scholar-Athlete teams.

To earn the recognition, 75% of each team was required to hold a GPA above 90%.

The Hampton Bays School District extends its congratulations to the boys and girls track/field teams, girls varsity basketball team and competitive cheerleading team.

Hampton Bays Baseball Player Named a Top Player

The Hampton Bays School District congratulates senior Seamus Smith for being named to Newsday’s Top 100 Long Island Boys Baseball Players list. Seamus was recognized for going 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA, striking out 23 in 28 innings last season. He also had 16 hits, 13 RBIs and 14 doubles.

Hampton Bays Middle School students were thrilled to welcome author Tae Keller for a special assembly on March 25. The students have been reading her book “The Science of Breakable Things” as part of a schoolwide read-aloud. During the assembly, Keller read an excerpt from her book and provided insights into her writing process. Students also had the opportunity to ask questions.

Learning a new skill: Crochet

Hampton Bays Middle School eighth graders crocheting thumbnail265235

Hampton Bays Middle School eighth graders are learning the art of crochet. The students, with the assistance of English teacher Jessica Mills, are crocheting squares that will be sewn together for patients at Stony Brook University Hospital. Many of the students, who never held a crochet hook before, picked up crochet techniques, including chaining, very quickly.

Celebrating women in history

To celebrate Women’s History Month, fourth grade Hampton Bays Elementary School students learned about its significance and created presentations. They used computer-based programs to research women whom they admire and then shared a biography of their selected person with their class.
